Wollastonite is a calcium silicate mineral of high temperature metamorphic or igneous origins, which lately has been found to have an increasing range of industrial applications. Its main producing country is China. At Ethiudna, in South Australia's north-east, wollastonite occurs associated with diopside marbles of the Palaeoproterozoic Willyama Supergroup. These host rocks were originally limestones, which have been contact metamophosed in response to high palaeogeothermal heat flows emanating from the adjacent Crockers Well Granite intrusion. At this locality the main Lady Katherine wollastonite occurrence has an Indicated Resource of 600,000 tonnes. A mining lease (ML 5780) is currently held over this deposit by Minerals Corporation Ltd.
