Trial dewatering of the quarry, which is excavated in fractured and well-bedded Cambrian dolomite, took place for at least 56 days during early 1994, but pumping was terminated when a further significant water level drawdown could not be achieved. Ten monitored observation wells indicated reasonably consistent transmissivities of around 330 square metres per day, whereas derived values for the specific yield were much more variable, with a geometric average of 0.03. A variation of hydraulic conductivity (K) relative to the direction of water influx to the pumping sump was indicated: K is probably lower on the eastern and north-eastern sides.
