The current, version 1 release South Australia state-wide Solid Geology 3D Model is a new compilation of the pre-existing Gawler Province 3D Model and Curnamona Province 3D Model releases of 2005, that were both constructed in GeoModeller and then were made available on DVD and as downloads through the South Australian Resources Information Geoserver (SARIG). These original 3D models have now been converted to GOCAD format, and the scope of their included solid geology information has been extended to cover the remainder of South Australia, by using a generalisation of the Solid Geology of South Australia GIS dataset.

This model is presented as a 'proof of concept' only for the GOCAD and Geomodeller software which the Geological Survey is using to create its 3D models, and thus its accuracy (spatial or otherwise) should not be relied upon for guiding exploration or other decision-making processes. Vertical accuracy of the interpolated formation volumes, topographic and basement surfaces are variable, in part due to resampling (topographic surface), interpretation (formation boundaries), interpolation/unconstrained inversions (Curnamona and Gawler Provinces Archaean to Late Mesoproterozoic formation volumes), and extrusion (all remaining Archaean to Late Mesoproterozoic and all Neoproterozoic to Ordovician formation volumes).
